NEW YEAR’S EVE

a new year
rising from wild seas
a few stars

filling
the glass with candlelight
champagne

a few stars
spread out before us –
time to make a wish

a few stars
twinkling in the wintry air
in the breath of a new dawn

spread out before us –
a splash of color
rent darkness asunder

time to make a wish
withered hands catching
sparkling winter stars
