bare branches
a painting against the blue sky
leaves under my feet

© Yozakura

from branches that touch the sky
the happy sparrows take flight

with the rising sun
the air holds promise of snow –
frost a white coating

a new flock of sparrows arises
settling on the tall branches

happy sparrows sing
becoming part of the trees
breaking the silence

autumn leaves come crashing down
awakening to birdsongs

Response to Carpe Diem #1790 & #1791 (double episode)

fallen autumn leaves
a cascade of color
painting a forest floor

lovebirds living in small flocks
sing sweetly from limb to limb

among leaves so green
where sunbeams rarely creep
bright-eyed stars will see

in this season’s cold silence
infinite grassy meadow

sweet amorous song
old lovers renew their vows
softly tinged with blue

sitting under God’s bright sun
of a thousand tomorrows

one starry night
to make that one painting –
the rustling leaves

Chėvrefeuille (2014)

a sudden meteor shower
it is difficult to sleep

the sight of falling stars
ten-thousand candles lit up night sky
such stunning yellow light

summer’s dead leaves fly
once more the twitter of birds

a field mouse skitters
reaching for some warmth
among the nest of stars

may he rest in peace
in the quiet hum of night

a faint star cluster
jewels dancing about
with the rhythm of the wind

ambitious dreamer eyes the sky
gazing heavenward towards the stars

Response to Carpe Diem Weekend Meditation #107 Turn Back Time (3) Soliloquy no Renga … one starry night

circle of life
seasons come and go … always
the Cosmos leads us

© Chèvrefeuille

taken to another world
I follow the shooting stars

from green umbrella
pink and white cherry blossoms
are aroused from sleep

dancing ballet in the air
for the very first time

yesterday’s remnants
collect in the rock garden
nudged by bitter winds

so many lost memories
amid the fallen blossoms

frozen immortal –
bright angel among dark clouds
scattering beauty

within the glittering stars
twinkling galaxies of dust

Solo Renga

Response to Carpe Diem #1530 Universe … Soliloquy No Renga (solo-renga)

teasing butterflies
despite rain clouds
playing hide-and-seek

autumn leaves change color
in the window

scattered fireflies
dance in chorus
above night garden

a gentle breeze
disperses pale blossoms

skinny branches
fall fully ripe fruit
to the woodpile

misty wraiths rise
from flakey collective

frozen ice thaws
lingering til noon –
melting consciousness

abyssal blue –
sound of snow falling

fine fragile flakes
cross still waters
winter equinox

birdsongs fade
drifting away with green wind

spring revival
white plum blossoms
a brief resurgence

sleeping children dreaming
of summer games

soliloquy no renga

Response to Carpe Diem #1519 Junicho, the twelve stanza renga (Soliloquy No Renga)

this is war

ancient warrior ghosts
mists over the foreign highlands –
waiting for the full moon

winter moon behind the mists
defiant samurais stand

blood is drawn for peace
clamorous colliding swords
bloodied leaves weigh down

in midst of bloodied battle
tempered swordsmen dueling

many have fallen
a violent death to all –
victorious ending?

spring blossoms bless the fallen
the casualties of war
